The Freshman's Guide to HAAGA-HELIA and HELGA
What is HELGA?
HELGA is the Student Union of HAAGA-HELIA. We look after the interests of all the students in our school. We provide you with a student ID, tutors to help you get started in the school and great parties where you can meet new people.
Student ID
Your student ID is how you prove to others that you are indeed a student at HAAGA-HELIA. With a student ID you get lots of discounts, for instance 50 % off the price of a bus ticket. Your student ID is also your HELGA membership card. Don’t waste any time, order a student ID on-line (for those using Nordea, OKO or Sampo internet bank) or come to the HELGA office on the K1-floor of Helia-house in Pasila campus.
Coveralls
Coveralls are a part of every student’s survival package in Finland. The traditional costume of students during Wappu, GOOM and many other national student events, coveralls can save your day and in some cases your reputation… For members of HELGA the costs of the coveralls are less than for regular students. All HAAGA-HELIA students have the same petroleum blue as the color of their coveralls and alterations to make the coveralls more like YOU are more than appropriate. You can try on the coveralls at the HELGA office at Pasila campus or at your local unit association’s office at your own campus during the first few weeks of school.
The Freshmen Party
The Freshmen’s Party is our way of welcoming all new students to HAAGA-HELIA. This time the big day is 3 September and starting from 14.00 you will make your way around Helsinki with a group of students on a track of several checkpoints where your tutors and local student union officers give you all kinds of fun assignments. The theme for the Party is MUSIC GENRE's, so dress up or don’t dress up, just remember that you only get to be a freshman this one time… For further information contact your tutors.
Tutors
Your tutors are there for you to help you through your orientation days and the first few weeks of school. They won’t hold your hand, but they will tell you everything they know about using the school e-mail or BlackBoard, eating at the school cafeteria, where you can find things in your local unit and so on. Trust them, they know what they’re doing. |
