Tutoring
Peer tutors welcome new students to our school and show them how things work in their own degree programme. Peer tutors’ most important task is to introduce the new students to the new environment and study culture at HAAGA-HELIA. Even though the main emphasis of peer tutoring is in the beginning of studies, tutors help the students also later on during their studies. HELGA peer tutors work closely together with the academic advisors of their own degree programme. In addition to tutoring new students, peer tutors participate in the marketing of HAAGA-HELIA.
Callidus-tutor is a student who can help other students to understand some subject or a specific field of expertice. Callidus helps one student face to face or organizes a study circle for a group of students. Callidus-tutor gets help from HAAGA-HELIA teachers. If you want to become a callidus-tutor, you do not have to be a peer tutor. You don’t either need to be a genius in the subject; it is enough if you know your field of expertice good enough to be able to help other students to learn. You will get the basic tools for callidus-tutoring in an evening training. After tutoring you return a report which entitles you to credit points and a work certificate.
ESN-HELGA tutors welcome exchange students to our school and introduce them culture and habits of the new country. HAAGA-HELIA has 300-400 incoming exchange students every year and each of them have their own tutor. ESN-HELGA tutor is in contact with the students before they come to Finland. Tutor also guides them to their apartment, helps with practical matters and supports in getting to know the new environment. ESN-HELGA tutors are also the busy bees organizing and participating the ESN-HELGA events and trips. Find more information also at ESN-HELGA website: www.esn-helga.com.
Head tutors coordinate the tutoring activities in their own degree programmes / campuses. If you want to know more details about the tutoring in your degree programme, you can contact your Head Tutor directly! They work together with the academic advisors and HELGA’s Tutor Responsible. Head tutors supervise the activities of tutors in their own degree programme / campus according to HELGA Tutor Responsible’s instructions. Head tutors plan the upcoming tutoring activities e.g. in HELGA Tutor Division’s meetings and in Kiljava tutor training camps.
